On August 1, 2005, Bishop Joseph Wang presented a plaque to President Matthew Min-Teh Yu indicating that it is the wish of the Taichung Diocese and the Board of Trustees that Dr. Yu continue as the president of Providence University for a second term.

Office of International Affairs staff member, Yi-Wei Chyi (far left), recently attended the 2005 Study Abroad Seminar that was sponsored by the Ministry of Education in Taiwan at Taichung Healthcare and Management University. Yi Wei was pleased to learn about scholarships offered by the government for Taiwanese students who want to pursue graduate degrees abroad. She is pictured here with two new acquaintances from China Medical University in Taichung. (The date, 94, on the banner in the background indicates 94 years of democracy.)

The Chinese Language Education Center (CLEC) held the 6th International Students’ Mandarin Chinese Language Speech Contest on May 20, 2005. Kagoshima Immaculate Heart University’s exchange students, Tomomi Kamimasu, Juri Okamoto, Rei Shiota, and Ryoko Sasayama, joined the contest. Ryoko and Rei both won a prize for excellent performance. Utah University exchange student, Chris Carnahan, was present to cheer them on.

Yi Xin Lin returned to Providence from The University of Montana, USA on May 25, 2005, and shared her exciting experiences of studying abroad with Ms. Kelly Chiu.

Recently returned exchange students from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, IN, Jelina Lin and Victoria Wang, met with Debra Tiao who is planning to study at SMWC in Sept., and IAE staff member, Ms. Chyi on May 27, 2005. Jelina and Victoria advised Debra on issues regarding credit transfer, visa application procedures and insurance. They shared experiences of the fun and cultural shocks in the U.S. as well. They also shared the difficulties they encountered and gave some practical suggestions to Ms. Chyi on how to make the program even better.
