Events of October, 2006

Congratulations to the Sisters of Providence from St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana, USA on the occassion of the Canonization of their foundress,
Saint Mother Theodore Guerin.






His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI presided at the Canonization liturgy.



Thousands of people from around the world gathered at St. Peter's Square to take part in the Canonization on October 15, 2006.



The Taiwan delegation were treated to lunch at the Embassy of the Republic of China to the Vatican, Holy See.

Two days after the Canonization a special audience with Pope Benedict XVI was held at Vatican City, Rome.

Providence University coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the reception of Julio Garrett Aillon, President of Andina Simon Bolivar University, and Jorge Julio Garret Kent from Oct.23-31. Dr. Aillon and President Yu signed an exchange agreement on Oct.25, 2006.

The Office of International Affairs held an exciting exchange partner fair on Oct.30-31, 2006. Schools from Japan, Philippines, Spanish and the United States promoted their programs and encouraged students to study abroad.

Providence University welcomed 22 faculty and students from Anhui University, China, one of our exchange partners for a ten days summer program from July 31 to Aug. 9, 2006.

Sixteen Providence University students participated in the American English and Culture Program at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) from July 8 to 23, 2006





Dr./S. Anne Therese Falkenstein welcomed students to SMWC and introduced the campus to students.

Br. Barry Donahue gave the group a tour introducing the history of Sisters of Providence.




Ms. Mary Helen Clayton, Director of International Student Services at SMWC, invited the group to visit her home where students rode horses and had a BBQ.

Students visited Baffalo Wild Wings in Terre Haute, Indiana.
