Event of August

August 18 – 27 The Office of International Affairs held short term summer program for Anhui University during August 18 to 27. There are 3 teachers and 17 students who have participated in the event. The program includes interchanging with students of Providence University, visiting Anhui University’s partner universities, and cultural trip. Their visit includes the following universities: Feng Chia University, Tunghai University, National Taiwan University of Arts, and National Taiwan University. During the cultural trip, the group has been experiencing the Hakka cultural, the glamorous Sun Moon Lake, delicious food and traditional culture in Tainan, and metropolitan life in Taipei. The teachers and students harvest with joy from the whole program. The students have developed a solid friendship. Furthermore, the partnership between two universities grows stronger.

Event of July

97年7月24-31日辦理國際文化交流夏令營,共有7位師生參與此活動。安排華語文課程及台灣文化交流學程,其與本校學生的語言及文化交流,豐富靜宜大學的國際文化交流經驗,拓展其國際視野,提昇校園國際化。其中2名學生表示有意願至靜宜大學以交換學生來學習更多學術及文化交流。菲律賓的聖伊莎貝爾大學校方代表也將更加推動並鼓勵當地學生來靜宜大學研修。

The Office of International Affairs held the short term program for Universidad de Sta. Isabel, Philippines during July 24 to 31, 2008. There were 7 Philippines teachers and students in this great event. The program included Chinese course and culture exchange. The purpose is to fulfill internationalization and execute international perspective of Providence University. The two students in the program would like to be exchange students in the near future. Moreover, 5 teachers from the Universidad de Sta. Isabel will encourage local students to study in the Providence University after they went back to their country.

Dr. Jacque Carter, Dr. David Ward, Mr. Alan Liebrecht, Ms. Mei Jung "Joanne" Liebrecht-Huang, and Ms. Trisha Mason of the University of New England, visited Taiwain and initiated talks with President Matthew Min-Teh Yu and Dr. Anne Therese Falkenstein to sign up MOU with Providence University on June 11, 2008 (Wednesday)

Dr. Dennis C. Golden of Fontbonne University, USA and the Director of International Student Affairs, Rebecca Grant Bahan, visited Taiwain and initiated talks with President Matthew Min-Teh Yu and Dr. Anne Therese Falkenstein to sign up MOU with Providence University on May 26, 2008.

Sister Miriam Jasen had a pleasant gathering dinner with students who studied at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland last summer. The next day she had meetings with students, Dr. Baker, and staff of the Office of International Affairs for summer program at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland. She had campus tour of Providence University and took some photos for incoming students.

On March 7, 2008, Providence University received Dr. David Behrs, President of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, Dr. Christine Bahr, VP for Academic Affairs, and Ms. Lynn Hughes, Executive Director of College Relations to discuss the initiation of a dual degree program.

On March 12, 2008, the Office of International Affairs received Mr. John Hartwright, NBS Head of Recruitment and Admissions, and Mr. David Caine, Head of International Developments South East Asia, from Northumbria University, UK to discuss exchange programs.

On Jan. 10, 2008, Providence University received eight guests who were invited by Department of Ecology. Department of Ecology held an international forum titled “The influence of culture and place on indigenous children’s learning” on Jan 6-7, 2008.
