On Dec.4,2006, Dr. Roland Verhe from the Organic Chemistry Department of Universiteit Gent, Belgium was invited by College of Science to give a talk to graduate students on Dec.4, 2006.

Vicky Lo and Peggy Hsu shared their experiences on December 5, 2006 of studying abroad at SMWC and gave advice to the group of 8 students who are going to study at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College on the second semester.

The Office of International Affairs assisted the Department of Ecology with the welcoming of Dr. Joel J. Mintzes from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington who gave a talk on Dec.29,2006 and was a visiting professor of Providence University in 2004. Mrs. Mintzes taught in the Department of English Language, Literature and Linguistics at Providence in 2004.v

Events of November, 2006

The Office of International Affairs was pleased to receive an award on Nov.2, 2006 from the Mainland Affairs Council for outstanding performance in hosting cross-straits activities.


Dr./S. Anne Therese Falkenstein, Director of the Office of International Affairs received the award from Mr. Jaushieh Joseph Wu, Chairperson of Mainland Affairs Council.

Congratulations to the Spanish Language and Literature Department for inviting
Rector Olman Segura from Universidad Nacional, Costa Rica for a conference. Rector Segura and President Yu signed an exchange agreement on Nov.22, 2006.

Events of October, 2006

Congratulations to the Sisters of Providence from St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana, USA on the occassion of the Canonization of their foundress,
Saint Mother Theodore Guerin.






His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI presided at the Canonization liturgy.



Thousands of people from around the world gathered at St. Peter's Square to take part in the Canonization on October 15, 2006.



The Taiwan delegation were treated to lunch at the Embassy of the Republic of China to the Vatican, Holy See.

Two days after the Canonization a special audience with Pope Benedict XVI was held at Vatican City, Rome.

Providence University coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the reception of Julio Garrett Aillon, President of Andina Simon Bolivar University, and Jorge Julio Garret Kent from Oct.23-31. Dr. Aillon and President Yu signed an exchange agreement on Oct.25, 2006.
